Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, School of Environmental Science and Engineering originated from the Department of Environmental Science and established in 2002. In 2004, the Department of Environmental Engineering established. It renamed as the School of Environmental Science and Engineering in 2006. After twenty years of development and construction, the teaching infrastructure and conditions of the school has been improved significantly, and its competitiveness and reputation among similar disciplines has also been strengthened. In 2003, it was approved to offer a secondary master's degree in Environmental Science. In 2010, it was authorized for a primary master's degree in Environmental Science and Engineering. In 2009, the school was approved for a professional master’s degree in Environmental Engineering. In 2014, it was approved for a secondary doctoral and master's degree in Environmental Meteorology. In 2018, it was authorized for a primary doctoral degree in Environmental Science and Engineering. In 2019, a primary postdoctoral research station was established. The discipline of Environmental Science and Engineering was recognized as a key discipline by the China Meteorological Administration in 2008. In 2011, the discipline of Environmental Science and Engineering was rated as a leading discipline of Jiangsu Province, and it received the following second and third funding in 2014 and 2018, respectively. In 2015, the school was selected as a "National Demonstration Site for Joint Training of Engineering Professional Degree Graduate Students." In 2019, the major of Environmental Engineering program passed the Ministry of Education's professional accreditation, and the major of Environmental Science was selected as a national first-class major. In 2023, the discipline of Environmental Science and Engineering ranked 61^stin the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects and ranked 21^stin the China. The discipline of Environmental Science and Ecology ranked in the top 2‰ worldwide of the ESI ranking. The school serves as an executive member of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences and Jiangsu Provincial Society for Environmental Sciences. Up to now, the school has trained a large number of talents in environmental protection engineering technology, scientific research, and administrative management.
